manually hide the tooltip

Is there any way to manually hide the tooltip?
It's just that on mouseclick or doubleclick event, my application opens a custom popup dialog for which the tooltip js 'crash' after that... So I'm thinking to hide the tooltip manually before the custom popup dialog is opened.
